Admission Processing and Documentation

OCMT applicants should apply online through our web portal at Apply Now.

Yes, you can submit your documents online by uploading them on our application page. You may attach all documents and save it as one file or upload your documents on each upload section on our application page. You may also send your documentation alongside your personable identifiable information to the application intake unit at admin@ocmtontario.ca

It depends on how soon you were able to get your documents to us. Once we received all documents, it takes five (5) business days to determine your application status, and eligibility. At most, ten business days. This also depends on the volume of applications being processed.

Your degree transcripts (Unofficial) (if postgraduate diploma, or high school certificate/diploma, if undergrad) to be sent to the Applications intake unit at admin@ocmtontario.ca, or uploaded on the application portal at Apply Now.

– Admissions and Enrolment unit will inform you when official transcripts should be sent for evaluation. The details will be sent once the admission is successful. This will not affect the admission processing.

– One passport photograph

– International Passport – Biodata page

– Letter of Intent – Not more than 2 pages.

– Two reference letters or letters of recommendation (either from past and present employers, Community leader or Professors). The letter should

speak to your value system, and your abilities to complete rigorous academic exercise.

– Proof of Funding

No, you may not want to wait until all documents are readily available. Generally, you should submit your unofficial transcript(s), CV/resume, passport photograph, and biodata of your international passport to conduct the first review of your application.

Generally, we do not require IELTS if you are from English speaking countries, or your prior education was delivered in English language. However, if you are not from the English-speaking country, we will require a minimum of 6.5 grade in IELTS score.

We understand some students would like to commence their education without waiting until winter arrives, or until leaves are falling. Our enrolment system is not restricted to winter, spring, fall or summer. We recruit students into year-round.

The admission office will conduct a first review of your application to determine your eligibility. Once your eligibility has been confirmed, you will be required to pay the application fee. 

You may not have the application fee waived. This is a mandatory fee to process your application and perform all other necessary administrative tasks on your application.

You may be invited for an interview to further clarify any question about your credentials, or gaps in your education, and, or work experience. We may also invite you for an interview to ascertain your proficiency in communication in English language. Generally, we will notify you after the initial review if you are required to attend an interview.

We understand that many things could have accounted for a less than impressive grades, therefore, our decisions are not solely determined by academic grades even though, we are strict on overall academic performance, your work experience, or volunteering experience may count towards your eligibilities.

Program Approval and Delivery System

Yes, OCMT programs are accelerated so our students can get into market without spending 3/4months on summer vacation. With a short interval breaks between courses, OCMT offers comprehensive curriculum through an accelerated process. For example, some programs, which may take two years at other institutions are condensed into a one-year program so our students are able to transition from campus to career in no time.

Due to the COVID-19 policy change, you may take your program virtually while your visa is being determined (as an international students). You may also choose a hybrid program which includes online and in-classroom delivery system. Please note however, the virtual delivery system is constantly being reviewed by the regulatory bodies as COVID-19 situations change.

No, it won’t. There is no difference between the content that is taught on-campus versus online. The only difference is the delivery system, which does not affect the quality of the content, or the program recognition.

Yes. OCMT vocational programs have been approved as vocational programs under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005. Certificate programs less than 40 hours are exempted and do not require approval under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005. 

Visa and Immigration

Generally, you should apply for study visa once you have prepared all documents. Your Letter of Acceptance (LoA) (a.k.a. Admission letter) is a mandatory requirement for your visa application.

Study permit: Get the right documents – Canada.ca

There are list of documents required by the visa office to apply for the visa. Each country may be different by specific requirement such as, police clearance, or health records, but majority of the requirements are generally the same. Please click this link for a complete document checklist.

The visa officer will determine how long you can stay in Canada, considering the duration of your program (as stated in your Letter of Acceptance), and the period of internship, if your program has internship option. However, you may extend your stay in Canada if there are reasons to do so. For more information, please click the following link.

You are not alone. Many students feel the same way especially, if this is your first time traveling out of your country, or your first time applying for a visa. There are many options to prove your source of funding which will be acceptable to the Canadian visa office in your country. Please see the following list:

You can prove your funds with:

  • A Canadian bank account in your name, if you’ve transferred money to Canada
  • A guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution
  • An education loan from a bank
  • Copies of bank statements for the past 4 months
  • A bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars
  • A payment receipt of tuition and housing fees
  • A letter from the person or school giving you money, or
  • Funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program.

Well, there is no a straight-forward method, but each case is different based on well you can articulate your reasons for traveling to Canada, why do you want to study, why the program, and why Canada. A good application is one where you have prepared your points and accurately present it in your application. You may consider hiring a qualified immigrant agent/consultant/lawyer to help you through your application process. You may want to make sure the person you are hiring has experience working on visa/immigration applications. You may find the following discussion forum helpful. You will need to get a contractual agreement or a letter of financial support from your funding company and attach the letter with your application. A

copy of the letter should also be sent to the OCMT finance at finance@ocmtontario.ca

You should immediately contact your admission advisor at the OCMT via admissions@ocmtontario.ca. You may have to re-apply by getting a new letter of acceptance with a new date, and possibly, new conditions, and directions.

Yes, you may start your classes virtually then complete it on-campus.

Yes, you may work up to 20hours a week (Monday till Friday) while studying in as much such work activities will not prevent your original purpose of coming to Canada. OCMT Employment services unit may be able to help you secure a part-time work while you study so you can earn while you learn.

Insofar you have met the requirements by the Immigration Canada/Visa office, you may travel to Canada with your eligible family members.

Yes, your spouse may apply for a work permit for authorization to work while you study.

Internship and Employment Support

Yes, most of our programs are accompanied with internship. Our internships are arranged by our employment support unit for the eligible students who have successfully completed all the required courses for Internship.

No. OCMT currently works with employers to provide internship for our eligible students.

OCMT has employment support and readiness unit that offers employment services through our network of employers. Our employment support may include, resume preparation, mock interview, personal selling skills, job-connect. Our approach to employment is to make sure we are connecting you with jobs related to your program of study.

OCMT employment support unit continues to expand our network of employers to better support our students. We are not just interested in bringing you onboard as our student, we are also interested in your career life after the college. We work with high-tech firms, professional firms, private and public sectors. We would generally conduct fit analysis to ensure there is a fit between the employers’ job description and the skillset.

COVID-19 Plans

Yes, OCMT is approved to re-open in-classroom lectures, having met the requirements by the Public Health, Ontario. You may view our readiness plan on our website via this link.

OCMT has wide ranging of services including research opportunities with companies, innovation and commercialization unit which helps our students in start-up funding initiative through the Business Development Canada.
